InquilinXs UnidXs por Justicia (United Renters for Justice) (IX) is a new organization founded to build power to change the housing system in Minneapolis. It was founded by latino community members to work with renter communities most oppressed by high rents, bad conditions, and intimidation by landlords in Minneapolis. IX is currently seeking an experienced community leader to serve as an organizer.

This is a full-time position. The organizer will be responsible for growing our assemblies. This will be done by developing an organizing plan for buildings in crisis in our community, and for supporting current organizing campaigns. The activities of this position will be coordinating groups of tenants to doorknock and phone canvassing, facilitating in building meetings, and collective case work. The organizer will create and keep up records for tenants they are working with.

Primary Responsibilities:

The organizer will develop a target list of buildings to organize in through talking with partners, leaders and the community. The organizer will then determine strategies to get the tenants from those buildings involved in our assemblies, including door knocking, in building meetings, collective case work.

The organizer will work with participants in our organization to coordinate door knocks and other responsibilities. The organizer will support the ongoing organizing in other buildings.

The organizer will support the general work of the organization, including assemblies, protests, coordination with the city, and other work.

The organizer will work with the Directors of the organization to shift and change as the work requires.


A competitive candidate will have:

  • Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on being able to manage multiple projects at once
  • 1-2 years of community organizing experience (including volunteering)
  • A strong critique of capitalism
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Some familiarity with computers
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend hours
  • A passion and love for building a healthy community
  • Be bilingual, with English, Spanish and Somali as strong preferences


The salary is negotiated based on experience, language abilities, and salary history.  The salary range is mid 30s on a full-time basis.
