Stand with Inquilinxs Unidxs and the Tenants of QT Properties

At a time when many families are deciding what to do for the holidays, one group of Minneapolis tenants are facing a much more difficult decision. In early November, QT Properties told tenants living in the Lyndale neighborhood that their rent would increase by up to $205 per month. Tenants were given three weeks to decide whether to renew their leases, or to move out by February 1. Rather than looking forward to the holidays, nearly 100 families are facing eviction, a brutally competitive housing market, and increased food insecurity. We call on our supporters to stand with tenants: Call QT Properties general manager Matthew Mock at 763-535-5831. Tell him you are a neighbor and friend of QT tenants. Ask him to extend the deadline for tenants to sign a new lease until December 31st, 2016. “This is really difficult for us,” says Esperanza, a member of Inquilinxs Unidxs. “The short notice mean we don’t have enough time to find a new apartment. A move would mean a complete change; where my kid gets picked by the bus, where she goes to school. They are increasing the rent, but we’re making the same amount of money at work.”Tenants may choose to sign month-to-month, 6 months or year long leases, with the shortest options being the most expensive. The deadline for tenants is fast approaching--they are supposed to sign a new lease or accept a move out by the end of November. When asked by a majority of the affected tenants for an extended deadline and rent rollback, the company turned them down.Stand with tenants: Call QT Properties general manager Matthew Mock at 763-535-5831.
