Minneapolis City Council: Save housing inspectors!

We are organizing to STOP proposed cuts to housing and homeless services in Frey’s recommended 2027 budget. If approved, the budget would cut 9 positions in the Department of Regulatory Services - the city department responsible for rental housing inspections and some services for people experiencing homelessness.

We know cutting these positions would mean fewer inspections, slower response times and less accountability for negligent landlords. We know the consequences of these cuts would land first and most intensely on Black, Brown, immigrant, working class communities, who are disproportionately exposed to predatory and neglectful landlords.

The Minneapolis City Council is hosting two upcoming listening sessions for community members to make their voices heard during the budget process, ahead of voting on the Mayor’s 2027 recommended budget:

Thursday, Oct. 29
University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (UROC), 2001 Plymouth Ave. N.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Listening session from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 5
Whittier Elementary School Cafeteria, 315 W 26th St.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Listening session from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

These hearings will be the last time the City Council will hear public input before the final vote on the budget on December 15th. Please come testify and urge the council to restore cuts to Regulatory Services!
