We are so honored and humbled to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia. For a decade, we have stood strong in our unwavering commitment to building a just and equitable housing system in Minneapolis — one where renters organize, rise, and exercise collective power to demand and win democratically-controlled, permanently affordable housing for all.
In 2015, when we first began door-knocking and talking to renters in the Lyndale Neighborhood about the housing conditions our neighbors across Minneapolis are facing, we never could have imagined that coming together to support a few of our community members with repair requests would transform into an unstoppable, rising tide of tenant power
Ten years later, we have organized with hundreds of renters across the city, preventing countless evictions and returning millions of dollars into renters’ pockets in the process. IX members in North Minneapolis successfully mobilized against one of the largest private equity landlords in the country - a landlord that left the state as a result of this powerful organizing. In South Minneapolis, after a decade-long struggle, the residents of the Sky Without Limits Cooperative liberated 5 buildings from the control of a private landlord, transitioning them into community control.
On December 5, from 6-9 PM at First Universalist Church in Minneapolis, we are coming together to celebrate a decade of tenant-led organizing, learning, and wins for IX. We are honored to invite our members, allies and supporters to our 10-year anniversary celebration on Friday, December 5th, at the First Universalist Church in Minneapolis!
Together, we will dance, sing, connect, and break bread in honor of our members, staff, and allies, who remain steadfast and committed to building a housing system rooted in collective care, justice, and power. And, together, we will welcome another 10 years of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with tenants across the city, state and country.
