We're raising funds for rental assistance for IX members
For the last three weeks, immigrant families across the state have been harmed, traumatized and threatened by ICE escalation. Countless families are afraid to leave their homes to take their kids to school, go to medical appointments, get groceries, or commute to work.
At Inquilinxs Unidxs, we are asking the state to take immediate action by passing a temporary eviction moratorium and funding for emergency rental assistance, to prevent families from losing their homes this winter as ICE activity intensifies.
In addition to fighting for an eviction moratorium, we are raising funds for rental assistance for IX members and their families. ZACAH, a local organization that has been providing rental assistance to Minnesotans for a decade, will lend capacity and coordinate distributing rental assistance to IX members.
As the holiday season approaches, we are once again counting on you and each community member and ally to show up for one another. Please consider making a contribution to our rental assistance fund or sharing this with your loved ones. Your generosity will go directly to keeping our neighbors safe from evictions, detention, and separation from their families - the greatest threats facing our communities right now.
Across Minneapolis, neighbors have stepped up in every way we can to protect our immigrant families. Parents are organizing carpools so kids can get to school without putting immigrant parents at risk. Community members are dropping off groceries and medications for neighbors who are scared to leave their homes. Mutual aid is moving quietly and constantly, to help people get through the week. We do this because these families are our neighbors. They are our children’s classmates. They are our friends.
Join us in fighting for our neighbors and friends and keeping them in their homes. The last 10 years of organizing tenants has shown us again and again that when we stand together, we win and keep everyone safe, together. Thank you for your continued support in keeping our neighbors, community and city safe. Let's show them that we are here to stay.
